Making a green room - Do I have to use Chroma Key paint?
I do the videos for my church, and they are going to let me use one of the rooms there to do videos in, so I am going to paint 3 of the walls, and part of the floor green for chroma key use. I have seen actual chroma key green, and blue paint for sale online, but do I really have to use chroma key paint for it to work very well, or can I just go to my local Lowes, and get some lime green paint? I know it needs to be as not-shiny as possible, but will that work, or would it be worth it to just get the chroma key paint?
The idea of the chroma key green is that it is a colour you are very unlikely to find naturally occurring in your subjects.
So if you pick some really awful green that is close to the chroma key, you'll be fine, just make sure your subjects wear other colours.
The most important part is the preparation. You need to get the background as even as possible, and then get the lighting as even as you can, too, and THAT is the hardest part.
Strong light fall-off or shadows on the green will ruin the whole thing.
Keep the amount of green on the floor and the side walls to a minimum.... if you have too much of it, your subjects faces will start looking very sick - the colour WILL reflect.
